Chennai Tambaram Terminal To Be Ready by June
CHENNAI: The Tambaram coaching terminal project, the third hub for passenger rail traffic in the region, will be completed by June, according to Vashishta Johri, General Manager, Southern Railways.
Comparing the railway budget to last year, Johri said that the budget had exceeded the last one by a significant margin. “This year the budget is Rs 1508 crore and 48 lakh, with Rs 50.48 crore for new lines, Rs 332 crore for gauge conversion and Rs 1126 crore for doubling that includes all sources, while the last budget was Rs 1100 crore and 95 lakh.
The routes that are likely to be completed include the Chennai Beach-Korukkupet third and fourth line of 8 km and Ennore-Korrukkupet fourth line which is 12 km.
For passenger amenities, Rs 17.2 crore has been allocated; Rs 11.5 crore for Chennai, Rs 9.3 crore for Madurai and Rs 2.7 crore for Tiruchy.
